こんにちは、サリーです。
先日、最近話題の通信制高校『ゼロ高校』の学校説明会の様子をYouTubeで観ました。
ゼロ高校の設立者であるホリエモンさんとゼロ校校長先生がゼロ高校について説明をされていました。

学校説明会でホリエモンさんが話されていたことや、説明会でのお話を聴いて私が思ったことなどについての英語トークを音声アプstand.fmで配信しました。

英語トーク原稿は、まず、シンプルで論理的な日本語で書いたものをDeepL機械翻訳機にかけて英訳させて作りました。
英文が出来上がった後は、日本文を修正し、日本語らしい響きの文に直しました。

今日はゼロ高校の話をしたいと思います。
Today I’d like to talk about Zero High School.
先日、ホリエモンさんのゼロ高校についてのYouTube動画を観ました。そこでホリエモンさんが話されていたことを中心にお話しします。
I watched a YouTube video about Horiemon-san’s Zero High School the other day, so I will mainly talk about what he said there.
ゼロ高校は高校の卒業資格を取得できるオンラインスクールです。
Zero high school is an online school where you can get a high school diploma.
ゼロ高校では、物事の始め方や達成の仕方を学ぶことができ、いろいろなことにチャレンジすることができます。
At zero high school, you can learn how to start things, how to achieve, and challenge yourselves to various things.
ゼロ高校設立者のホリエモンさんがこの学校を作った理由は、10代の若者のパフォーマンスを最大限に引き出すことは社会全体のためにもなると確信していたからだそうです。
The founder, Horiemon-san, says that he created this school because he was sure that maximizing the performance of teenagers would benefit society as a whole.
チャレンジに満ちた社会を作ることがホリエモンさんの理想のようです。
His ideal is to create a society filled with challenges, it seems.
現実の世界では、何がうまくいくかは試行錯誤してみないとわかりません。
In the real world, you don’t know what will work until you try it by trial and error.
行動すればするほど成功する確率は上がります。
The probability of success increases with action.
成功するかしないかを分けるのは、行動するかしないかだけです。
The only thing that separates success from no success is whether you take action or not.
途中で妥協せずに最後まで走りきることができるようになるためには、何度も何度もやる必要があります。
To be able to run to the end without compromising along the way, you need to do it again and again.
そこで重要になってくるのが、仲間を持つことです。
This is where having friends becomes important.
身近な人が実践したり、達成したりしている姿を見ることが大切です。
It’s important to see people near you practicing and achieving.
そして、お互いに切磋琢磨し、励まし合うことが大切です。
And it is also important to work together and encourage each other.
そのような環境を作れるかどうかが鍵になります。

最後に、今の世の中はどういう世の中なのかと、役に立たなくなった従来の教育制度とはどういう教育なのかについてホリエモンンさんが話されていたことにも簡単に触れておきたいと思います。
Lastly, I would like to briefly mention what horiemon-san said about what the world of today is like and the traditional education system that has become useless.

This is the world we live in.
次に伝統的な教育制度について
Next, about the traditional education system.
日本の近代的な学校教育制度は、明治5年に明治政府によって制定されました。
Japan’s modern school education system was established by the Meiji government in 1872.
以来、その制度はあまり変わっていません。
The system has not changed much since then.
この教育制度の主な目的は、人々に集団生活を学ばせ、基礎知識を暗記させ、国民国家の一員としてのアイデンティティを植え付けることにあります。
The main purpose of this education system is to make people learn to live in a group, to memorize basic knowledge, and to have an identity as a citizen of a nation-state.
ホリエモンさんが言うように、従来の教育はもう今の世の中には向いていないようです。
As Horiemon-san says, it seems conventional education is not suitable for today’s world anymore.
暗記教育や集団生活教育はもはや意味がなく、今は一人で自立して仕事ができるスキルが必要なのかもしれません。
Memorization and group life education are no longer meaningful, and now maybe we need skills to be able to work alone independently.
よほどの天才か、頭脳明晰で大学進学へ、というケースでない限り、私も含めみなさん、今のうちから自分の好きなことで『チャレンジ』を始めた方がよさそうです。
Unless you are a genius or very smart and are going to university, I think you should start challenging yourself to do whatever you like right now. Including me!
