こんにちは、サリーです。
昨年7月にアメリカ・フロリダ州の空軍基地から打ち上げられたNASAの火星探査機。
７カ月後の昨日(日本時間2021年2月19日)早朝、ついに火星に到着し火星大気圏へ突入。
火星探査車を無事に火星地表に降ろすことができました。
というニュースに感動しております!!
火星探査機が火星探査車『パーシビアランス』を地表に降ろすまでの『恐怖の7分間』。
NASAの管制室のスタッフの人達を始め、行方を見守っていた人達にとってはとっても長い7分間だったことと思います。
私はと言えば… タッチダウンの日にちをスケジュール帳に入れてはいたものの、すっかり忘れていて、タッチダウンの数分後にNASAのツイッターをたまたま見て気づきました。
いずれにしても、大成功で本当に良かったです。

Mars Mission『火星ミッション』についての英語トークを音声アプstand.fmで配信しました。

今日は、火星ミッションについて話したいと思います。
Today I would like to share with you about Mars Mission.
NASAの火星探査車が今朝、火星に着陸しました。
NASA’s Mars rover landed on Mars this morning.
探査車の名前は『パーシビアランス』です。
The name of the rover is “Perseverance.”
情報筋によると、火星探査車は、今後2年間にわたって、火星に生命の痕跡がないかどうかの探索や、小型ヘリコプターの飛行試験を行う予定、とのことです。
According to sources, it will spend the next two years searching for signs of life on Mars, as well as conducting flight tests of a small helicopter.
探査車を搭載した火星探査機は、昨年7月に打ち上げられ、7ケ月間の宇宙飛行の後、火星の大気圏に突入しました。
The Mars probe carrying the rover was launched last July and flew in space for seven months and entered the Martian atmosphere.
探査機は、パラシュートで減速した後、エンジンを噴射しながらゆっくり降下しました。
After slowing down with a parachute, the probe descended slowly with its engines firing.
地表から約20メートル離れたところで、『パーシビアランス』探査車を吊り下げて地表に降下させました。
When it was about 20 meters away from the surface “Perseverance” rover was suspended and lowered to the surface.
探査車は、日本時間2月19日午前6時前に着陸に成功しました。
The rover successfully landed just before 6:00 a.m. Friday Japan Time.
NASAのミッション・コントロール・ルームでは、着陸の成功を示すデータが火星から送信されたことを確認すると、スタッフから歓声があがりました。
In NASA’s mission control room, the staff cheered when they confirmed that the data indicating the successful landing had been sent from Mars.
パーシビアランスが着陸した場所は、かつて湖だったと考えられています。
The site where the Perseverance landed is believed to have once been a lake.
火星に生命が存在した証拠、あるいはその痕跡を見つけることが期待されています。
It is expected to find evidence of life on Mars or traces of it.
探査車には重さ2キロの小型ヘリコプターが搭載されており、火星の薄い大気中を飛べるかどうかの飛行試験を行う予定です。
The rover is equipped with a small helicopter weighing two kilograms, which will be used for a flight test to see if it can fly in the thin Martian atmosphere.
成功すれば、地球外で飛行する初のヘリコプターとなります。
If it succeeds, it will be the first helicopter to fly outside of Earth.
この火星ミッションでは、生命の直接的な証拠を見つけようとしています。
This Mars mission is trying to find direct evidence of life.
この点がこれまでのミッションとの違いであり、注目を集めています。
This is what makes this mission different from previous ones, and it is attracting a lot of attention.
火星に着陸した直後、探査車『パーシビアランス』は、火星の地表の写真を撮影し、地球に送信しました。
Immediately after landing on Mars, the rover “Perseverance” took pictures of the Martian surface and sent them to Earth.
探査車が撮影した写真の中には、平らな地表に石のような物体がいくつか見えます。
In the pictures taken by the rover, you can see some stone-like objects on the flat surface.
また、探査車の影も写っていました。
The image also showed the shadow of the rover.
今後探査車が何を発見するのか楽しみです。
I’m looking forward to seeing what the rover will find.
私は、火星に生命が存在していたかもしれない、と思います。
I think that life may have existed on Mars.
